The Planets Of Western Astrology – Who Knew

For those of us that put stock in horoscopes this type of astrology is normally associated with western astrology. Well for those of us that do have an interest in our horoscopes are you aware that readings of the twelve signs that are in western astrology all have a correlation to the planets and sun alignments around the earth. Most people are aware of the fact that there are twelve signs in western astrology but do you know how many planets are used in western astrology?

My position on this fact is that I was aware that the alignment of certain planets had something to do with how real astrologers interpret horoscopes. I was not however aware of how many planets there were and how each one or two planets were considered the rulers of each astrological sign.

I had no idea that there were eleven planets in the star system that are used in astrological charting. Did you know that originally way back when that astrologers only used seven planets. It was not until modern times and the invention of more advanced technologies that the other four planets were discovered and then assigned interpretations. Any way the original seven or “classic seven planets” are the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter. The other four or the “modern planets” are Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Ceres.

I won’t be going into what each planet means and how they correlate to each astrological sign. Let’s leave that up to the experts. I was surprised to learn that there was a time when those who studied astronomy and those who studied astrology were very much the same people for a very long time. Until the hard facts of science stepped in sometime during 18th century, that is approximately the time in history where two similar studies began to go into two very different directions. Nowadays astronomers are considered to be hardcore scientist where as people who study astrology aren’t considered much of a scientist at all.

So where do you fall in your beliefs for western astrology? Do you put much stock in those daily horoscopes or is it just a simple form of entertainment to you?
